1200 homes and businesses sustained varying degrees of damage. 101 of the 1200 were totally destroyed and 573 sustained major damage. Heavy damage occurred to Apollo High School, Kentucky Wesleyan College and a Winn-Dixie. Numerous automobiles were tossed.
This tornado developed 13 miles North of Downtown St. Louis in the Spanish Lake area. It moved across the Mississippi River into Illinois causing damage in the Hartford and Roxana areas.
Five homes were destroyed. One home was moved 60 feet from its foundation. There were two vehicles thrown 250 yards. Several farm structures were damaged and many trees and power lines were brought down.
2011 was one of the most active tornado years on record and it started off with seven twisters that traveled through portions of Mississippi. One of the strongest, was given an EF3 rating. It tracked close to nine miles through Noxubee County.
