An outbreak of 86 tornadoes occurred on January 21, 1999. There were nine tornadoes rated F3 (all but one in Arkansas) and one F4 in Arkansas. This summary looks at one of the F3s. Read the full summary here

January 21, 1933: An estimated F3 tornado moved through parts of Hickory and Benton Counties in Missouri. It passed 2 miles south of “Avery” along the county line. “Two large homes were nearly leveled and many barns were destroyed.” No injuries or fatalities listed in Significant Tornadoes but newspapers reported at least three minor injuries.

January 21, 2017: An EF3 tornado struck the town of Hattiesburg, MS. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed. Willam Cary College sustained major damage. Four people were killed, and over 50 others were injured. Source

A long-track, high-end EF2 wedge tornado passes near the town of Smithland, Texas and Vivian, Louisiana on January 21, 2017. Several homes were severely damaged, including one that lost its entire roof. A bathtub inside the home with an occupant taking shelter in it was picked up and tossed into a forest, with the occupant sustaining only minor injuries.
