July 8, 1680: A tornado hit at Cambridge, MA. This is the first confirmed true tornado in the United States…” A servant was killed. A barn was unroofed and many large trees were snapped.

On this day in 2014, an EF2 struck Smithfield, NY. At least three homes were destroyed, including a three-story house that was swept away, and three people were killed. Source.

Tornado and Other Weather Events From On This Day

On this day in 2020, an extremely photogenic EF4 tornado tracked through parts of Grant and Otter Tail Counties in MN, near the town of Ashby. EF4 damage occurred when a house and a machine shop were swept away, trees were debarked, and the ground was scoured. Source
