Summary
Five tornadoes were confirmed across parts of the northeast on February 25, 2017. The strongest moved through parts of NE PA. It was given a rating of EF2. There were no fatalities or injuries.
This tornado developed in Plains Township (Luzerne County) near Bald Mountain Road. It tracked 12.52 miles (7.12 miles in Luzerne County and 5.40 miles in Lackawanna County). Extensive damage occurred to a metal horse barn and two homes. A varying degree of damage occurred to 28 other homes. Over a thousand trees were knocked down along the path. Per the NWS Survey, “hardest hit areas were Bald Mountain Road in Plains Township, Suscon, Chapel, and Baker Roads in Pittston Township, and along Glendale Road in Pittston and Spring Brook Township in Lackawanna County.” Max wind was estimated at 120 mph along Bald Mountain Road.
