A two-day tornado outbreak occurred April 15-16, 1998. A total of 61 tornadoes were recorded by the Storm Prediction Center. 42 of those were on the 16th. Our summary for today is on an F4 that traveled a short distance through parts of Mississippi County, AR.
The tornado developed just west of Manila and tracked to the northeast. It destroyed several homes and mobile homes. Two children were killed in one of those mobile homes. It continued to the northeast leveling a discount department store and a gas station/food mart. Three small factory and machine shop buildings and a furniture store were destroyed. The tornado crossed through the main residential section of Manila destroying several homes.
