Tornado Talk Summary

An F4 tornado made a non-continuous trek of 29-30 miles across parts of Marion, Hancock, Madison and Henry counties on May 14, 1972. Close to 70 homes were destroyed or damaged in Marion County, “some to kindling wood.” In the 1400 block of North German Church Road, “twigs were embedded in tree trunks and two 1 X 6 boards were driven into the ground with such force that two men could not remove them.” Read the full summary here

May 14, 1886: An F4 tornado moved 35 miles trhough parts of Jay County, IN and Mercer County, OH. Grazulis documents at least nine homes were demolished in Indiana. A death occurred at the state line at a leveled farm. Northwest of Celina, five people were killed on several farm houses. 20 people were injured.

On this day in 2014, an EF3 tornado tracked for 9 miles through Greene County, Ohio, near Cedarville. An old, frail house was leveled, several other homes were damaged or destroyed, and trees were debarked.  Source.

A 1.5-mile-wide F5 tornado tracked for 45 miles through Howard and Mitchel Counties in Texas on this day in 1923. “Entire farms were wiped off the face of the earth,” 23 people were killed, and 250 others were injured.  Source
