Tornado Talk Summary

Per the Storm Prediction Center, 38 tornadoes occurred on May 8, 1965. 13 of those were in the state of South Dakota. The strongest tornado was a massive F5 that roared through parts of Eastern Tripp county. This is the only F5 on record for the state of South Dakota, since 1950. Read the full summary here

May 8, 1905: A devastating F4 tornado moved 20 miles from about 11 miles South of Marquette, KS and crossed right through the town. “Homes of both poor and good construction were swept away, and entire families were killed.” A total of 34 fatalities occurred, and 50 injuries.

On this day in 2003, an F4 tornado moved through 17.3 miles through Moore, OK. 45 people were injured as dozens of buildings were damaged or destroyed. The worst damage occurred to the General Motors plant, where buildings were flattened, and over 600 new SUVs that were just rolled off the assembly line were destroyed.  Source.
