September 12, 1949: An F2 tornado moved 6.5 miles across portions of Linn County, KS and Bates County, MO. Laura McGuire was at her farm south of Amsterdam, MO when it was hit and destroyed. Neighbors found her in a field 300 feet from the home. She died 15 minutes after arriving at the hospital. Eight others were injured along the path.
An EF1 tornado touched down briefly near Eudora, KS, on September 12, 2008. It traveled just over 1/2 mile, snapping trees and damaging or destroying barns and garages. For more information, check out the NWS Topeka!
