September 15, 1912: An estimated F2 tornado moved 10 miles through parts of Onondaga County, NY on this day. It moved east from near the “Long Branch” resort at the outlet of Onondaga Lakes and passed 2 miles north of the Syracuse city limits. Grazulis notes that 15 homes and approximately 100 other buildings were damaged or destroyed. 3 were killed and 40+ were injured.  

Twister From The 2000s

On September 15, 2006, an F2 tornado hit Surprise, NE. The twister had a path length of only 1 mile and was embedded within a downburst. Significant damage to trees and structures occurred in the town of Surprise. Source

September 15, 1945: A Category 4 hurricane made landfall in Homestead, FL. Sustained winds of 145 mph gusting to over 170 at times completely destroyed the Homestead Army Air Corps Base. Thousands of homes across FL were damaged or destroyed. There were 26 fatalities, 22 of which were in the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas. More information can be found here
