Tornado Talk Summary

It was the second time in 26 years that the town of Xenia, OH was hit by a major tornado. Some of the same areas struck by the 1974 F5 were hit again by an F4 on September 20, 2000. Along the 9 mile path, approximately 250 homes and 40 businesses were damaged/destroyed. There was one fatality. Read the full summary here

September 20, 1937: Grazulis documents a quick-hitting F2 tornado spawned by an easterly wave. It destroyed a barn near the St. Johns River in St. Johns County, FL. 

Twister From The 2000s

On September 20, 2002, an F3 tornado tracked for 112 miles through central Indiana. It passed through the southern and eastern sides of the Indianapolis Metro. Extensive damage occurred to homes, businesses, and schools. There were 130 injuries, but no fatalities. For more information and photos check out the NWS Indianapolis

September 20, 2002: Chunks of rocks hanging off of Mt. Dzhimarai-Khokh fell onto the Kola Glacier in Russia. The glacier “shattered,” setting off an avalanche. The avalanche buried the town of Nizhniy Karmadon, killing 125 people. Source.
